The Middle Border Museum, named for author Hamlin Garland's description of the Missouri River Valley frontier, is dedicated to the history of the Native Americans and pioneers who made an impact on the region between 1600 and 1939. The museum is located on the campus of Dakota Weslyan University, in the downtown region. Historical artifacts from the American Indians who first worked this land are on display at the museum, ranging from the pre-contact period to the early 20th century.
